UPSC IAS Eligibility Criteria
For Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service candidate must be must be a citizen of India
- For other services, a candidate must be-
- a citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or Bhutan or
- a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention to permanent settle down in India, or
- a person who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to Indian with the intention of permanently settling are eligible to apply for services.
- Candidate belonging to (b), (c), (d) and (e) categories, in their favour Government of India has been issued certificate of eligibility.
IAS Exam Eligibility Criteria
Applicants, who have completed Bachelor’s Degree from recognized universities/ institute or having Professional and technical qualifications recognized by the Government or its equivalent are entitled to apply for IAS Examination.

UPSC Civil Services Exam Age Limitation
Applicants who want to apply for UPSC IAS exam notification must make sure that you have attained the age of 21 years but does not exceed by 32 years.

Restrictions on applying for the Examination
- Candidates who were appointed for Indian Administrative Service one the result and continue to be member of that service are not eligible for the IAS examination.
- IF candidates is appointed to IAS/IFS after Civil Services Prelims Examination and they are continues to be a member of that service are not eligible for Civil Services (Main) Examination. No matter he /she qualified in Preliminary Examination.
- If any candidates will be appointed for IAS/IFS after mains exam and he /she continues to be a member of that service are not eligible for other service or post.
