Nationality and Qualification Details:

A candidate must be either a citizen of India/a subject of Bhutan/ Nepal/ Tibetan refugee who came back to India before the 01 January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India/ Only unmarried male candidates. Girls are not allowed to appear for NDA exam.

For Army wing of National Defence Academy: Applicants must hold 12th Class degree of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination organized by a State Education Board or a University.

For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: Candidates should possess 12th Class degree of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under 10+2 Pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

Age and Physical Eligibility Criteria:

Unmarried male candidates who had born not earlier than 02nd July 1997 and not later than 01st July 2000 are eligible for UPSC NDA Exam. Relaxation to reserved categories will not be allowed.

Candidates who get shortlisted through UPSC NDA NA Exam need to go to appear for UPSC Medical Exam for taking admission in National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2017. Following are the details regarding physical test:

Physical Standards
:

It is mandatory for a candidate who wants to apply for NDA Examination to be physically nad mentally fit. Candidates having Wax (Ears)/Deviated Nasal Septum/Hydrocele/ Phimosis/ Overweight/Underweight/Under Sized Chest/Piles/Tonsillitis/Gynaecomastia/Varicocele minor defects will be rejected during medical examination.

Body Tattoos and Spinal Condition

Comdt Selection Centre will only accept candidates having Tattoos on inner face of forearm or any candidate who belongs to those tribes in which tattoo marks is in their traditions. Tattoos on inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand are not get accepted. Candidate found with any of these spinal conditions during medical test will be disqualified.

 X ray Exam and Maddox Rod Test:

During medical test if any candidate found with below mentioned disabilities then he/she will immediately debarred: Granulomatius disease of spine/ Arthritidies/spondylosis/ Scoliosis more than 15 degree as measured by Cobb’s Method (10 degree for Army and Navy)/ More than mild Kyphosis/Lordosis/ Spondylolisthesis/Spondylosis/Spondylolysis/ Herniated nucleus pulposes/ Compression fracture of Vertebra/ Sacaralisation Disease/ Cervical ribs with demonstrable neurological or Circulatory deficit/ Presence of Schmorl’s node at more than one level/ Atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial anomalies/ Incomplete Sacaralisation Unilateral or Bilateral/ Spinal Bifida other than SV 1 and LV 5 if completely Sacralised/ Any other abnormality, if so considered by specialist.

Under Eligibility Criteria following are the information regarding Maddox Test: At 6 meters Exo-6 prism D/ Eso-6 prism D/ Hyper-1 prism D/ Hypro-1 prism D/ At 33 cms Exo-16 prism D/ Eso-6 prism D/ Hyper-1 prism D/ Hypo-1 prism D/ Candidates having undergone cataract surgery with or without IOL implants will also be not eligible.

Physical Training

Candidate must do Running 2.4 km in 15 minutes/ Skipping/ Pushups and sit ups (minimum 20 each)/ Chin ups (minimum 08)/ Rope climbing 3-4 metres in daily routine for selection.

Selection Procedure:

There are two stage in NDA exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission. These are as follows:

NDA Written Exam

Candidates who get shortlisted through screening of application forms shall have to appear for written examination conducted by UPSC. It is qualifying in nature. Candidate who qualifies the first stage then will be promoted to appear in the second stage.

SSB Interview

  • Services Selection Board (SSB) conducted Intelligence and Personality Test for the candidates who qualify Stage I.
  • Recruitment process will be based on two stages: 1st is Psychological Aptitude Test and 2nd is Intelligence Test which will be conducted at Selection Centers by Air Force Selection Boards.
  • After qualifying both stages, applicants need to submit original certificates along with one photocopy each of original matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth, original 10+2 pass certificate or equivalent.
