Origin of Sri Rama Navami

In the epic Ramayana, the Lord Rama was born to Dasharatha (the Emperor of Ayodhya) and Kaushalya in Ayodhya and married Sita. On the ninth day (Navami) of Chaitra Masa at noon Kaushalya gave birth to Lord Rama. Sri Rama is also known as Maryada Purushotham which means ideal, respective, righteous and prefect human being. He was one of the Avatar of Lord Vishnu. He came to the earth for the destruction of Ravan who is the Brahmin king of Lanka. Hanuman is the favourite devotee of Lord Rama. When we talk about Rama compulsory we have to mention about Hanuman. The epic Ramayana is incomplete without Hanuman. Hanuman always be with Rama. He burnt Lanka for Ravan kidnapping Sita wife of Rama.

Lord Sri Rama was the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and is one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu having a human form. The word Rama literally means the one who is divinely blissful and who gives joy to others. His glory is worthless, prowess are unlimited. He always addressed the people with gentle words. Lord Rama is true inspiration for everyone. Rama was the king of Ishwaku dynasty, his rulings and teachings are worthless. Celebration of Sri Rama Navami

Every year it occurs on ninth day i.e. Navami in the month of Chaitra (comes in April/May). This marking as birthday of Sri Rama and also observed as the marriage day of the Sri Rama and Sita and this is also referred to as Kalyanotsavam. This festival is celebrated throughout India. Even in aboard the Hindus will celebrate by going to temples and offering prayers. There are some famous recipes that would be cooked especially on that day. Rama Navami is the most ancient festival celebrated in India. In many temples read the ‘Ramayana’ the Hindu Epic on the life of Lord Rama. Bhajans, songs and dances are performed in the honour of lord. On this day, devotees clean their houses and decorate with colours. They also adorn the entrance doors with mango leaves which signifies the prosperity. Devotees offer special prayers to Lord and make famous dishes like Panakam (water mixed with jaggery, pepper) and dish prepared with soaked green grams. In South India, this auspicious day is also consider as marriage day of Lord Rama and Sita, in temples the priest will perform wedding ceremony called Kalyanotsavam. This festival continues for nine days, devotees will built temporary mandaps in their streets and offers prayers and also perform Sita RamaKalyanam. Many devotees also do fast on this occasion. They believe that who fast on this day are showered with immense happiness and blessings from Lord Rama. The important celebrations on this day takes place at Janakapurdham (Nepal, birth place of Sita), Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) Sita Samahit Sthal (Bihar), Bhadrachalam (Telangana), Kondandarama Temple (Andhra Pradesh), and Rameswaram (Tamilnadu).
